PHOTOGRAPHY IN ITALY:
where are we at?
Convention: 18th, 19th, 20th March
It’s an important and a vibrant moment for photography in Italy: exhibitions, workshops with the photographers, schools and debates are becoming more and more frequent. Even the art market is vivid and it is developing. But comparing with the other nations, for instance France, there's a gap that has to be plugged where the State has an active presence in the promotion and organization of photographic exhibitions. From this point of view there’s a shortage in the presence of the institutions which needs to be fulfilled.
Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia launches this first meeting to find out the best solutions to enable Italian photography to become more organized and more interesting.
This convention wants to open up the discussion not only to photography itself but also about to all the elements that surround it: media, blog, art market, schools and institutions.
This meeting is organised through a collaboration of Fondazione Venezia and with the help of Grin (Gruppo Redattori Iconografici nazionale), Giovanna Calvenzi, Cesare Colombo and Roberta Valtorta.

Charity auction for Italian earthquake victims

Forma – Centro Internazionale di Fotografia in Milan proposes a special sale of photographs for the earthquake victims in Abruzzo.
The photographs on sale have the common aim to represent the Italian Landscape: a further way of thinking at this beautiful country even if frail. A damaged landscape not only by natural calamity but first of all by carelessness and neglicence.
Each photographer joined the auction giving a photograph of his own and their prints will be exhibited previous to the auction at Forma from April 28 untill May 3, 11 am to 9 pm.
The auction is scheduled on the next Monday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at Forma and its income will be completely devolved to the charity Onlus Save the Children that has been supporting the Abruzzi earthquake victims – especially children - since the beginning.

My Brother Robert Capa

John Morris, the historical Photo Editor of LIFE, published the extraordinary photographs of the landing in Normandy.
Moreover, Morris was the Executive Editor of the historical Magnum Agency. But apart from being a colleague, he was also a very close friend of Robert Capa (hence the title of this encounter assigned by Morris himself).
55 years after Capa’s death - he was killed by a mine in Indochina - we have a unique portrait of the photojournalist from a person who knew him not only professionally, but also in his private life.
