On Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 6:30, Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia will present the opening of Magnum. La scelta della foto, Magnum Contacts.
This exhibit presents thirty of the most important, and most valuable, “contact sheets” by great artists of Magnum Photos, along with their respective final images.
The selected contact sheets, shown with notes by the artists themselves, tell us stories, reveal details, and retrace important events from contemporary history, while at the same time documenting not only the creation of singular images, but of the human stories they evoke.

This exhibit represents a preview of an even more extensive and complex exhibit in development by Magnum Photos which will begin an international tour in 2013.
The exhibit retraces the creative process of shooting and then of choosing “The Image,” including the reason behind the shot, the journalistic intuition behind the action, the often difficult working conditions, and, finally, the crucial moment of choosing what potentially could become a symbolic, iconic image of an event or person.

At a time when digital photography has dramatically changed the way photographers work, Magnum. La scelta della foto recalls an entirely different way of approaching photography; contact sheets allowed photographers to look back through the lens of time across visual memories of an event, a time, and a particular state of being.
